Organic Beer and Wine Tasting

There is one other thing we have to fear: a beer and wine tasting event where most vendors are pouring you full glasses of wine and beer while also being pretty lax about taking your drink tickets. Yikes.

I hit up the fourth annual California Certified Organic Farmers Organic Beer and Wine Tasting Event in SF on Friday evening, and though the details of the event are a bit hazy, I do recall a few things that might help guide your picks next time you're in the market for some booze.

Uncommon Brewers' Siamese Twin Ale – a Belgian-style Double that's rich and malty with a little citric kick - was essentially my obsession of this past summer. But since that's the only one they sell in stores, I was excited to finally try their Golden State Ale (unfiltered, Belgian-style golden ale) and the Baltic Porter (OMG SO GOOD GET IN MY FACE YOU CREAMY, LUCIOUS LIQUID), and neither disappointed.
The 2006 Scaggs Vineyard Montage was a hit amongst my wine friends. Their tasting notes: "Full and fruity, a refreshing bit of zest with just the right amount of alcohol." My tasting notes: "Mmm. I like this."
So was the Medlock Ames 2008 Sauvignon Blanc. I believe my thoughts were again along the lines of "Yes, this is good and it's also refreshing," but my wine peeps were saying things like "crisp," "balanced acidity," and "mineral-y fragrant," whatever that means.
LOFT Organic Liqueurs poured four variations on Limoncello: Lemongrass Cello, Lavender Cello, Tangerine Cello, and Spicy Ginger Cello. The lemongrass was definitely my fave, but if you visit the website for recipes, I have no doubt the Spicy Ginger drinks would be incredible.

My favorite part of the evening though, wasn't even something I tasted: It was when the Uncommon Brewers folks told me that they're working on a recipe for a Bacon Maple Brown Ale, a smoky, salty brown brewed with pork belly. Be still my (potentially soon to be not) beating heart.
