Brevity is the soul of wit

Shakespeare anticipated my existence when he wrote that, or at least I liked to think so when I increased page margins and font sizing on essays and papers back at school. My MO is to keep all communications short and sweet.

The only time I tend to get verbose is when I've had a few too many to drink. Recently this happened over a few Square One Vodka cocktails. Tasty, organic, U.S.-produced vodka makes me chatty to the point where I could probably talk your ear off about any subject...Word margins, for instance. Good thing, then, that I'm stone-cold sober as I write this.

Some more tips on printing. 1. If your printer and eyes are capable you can print multiple pages on one sheet. This is good if you are printing something just for yourself. My eyes (with bifocals) can handle 4 pages per sheet. 2. Use both sides of the paper. I have to do it by printing the odd number pages, reloading the paper, and then print the even number pages (old HP printer). Print to a PDF. I use PrimoPDF. Instead of having paper that you have to find you can put your documents in folders by type. I do this for recipes that I may want to try. The PDFs have pictures and all. If I'm going to make a recipe I only have to print one out of the hundreds that I have in my recipe folder.
Another famous quote, this one by Ben Franklin: "When the wine enters, out goes the truth." This sums up why I need to stay away from wine. But, I always recycle the bottle!
Regarding today's tip (12/15/7) Besides changing the margins, let's do more double side printing. Using only one side dates back to the original typewriter when the type went through to the other side. i work in the movie business where 99% of scripts are still printed on 1 side. This is pointless & wasteful. There's probably lots of other businesses where double side printing could be used & isn't just because people are used to single side. (How about all those legal briefs?)
When changing to smaller margins don't forget how wasteful it is to print off of the internet. Always use print preview to see how many pages you acturally want and print only that many, double-sided of course. Otherwise you get several pages of adds and other debris printed only down the side of the paper.
I personally do not use word, but I bet the default font size is 12pt. By changing the font size to a smaller one and decreasing the margins you can save paper. There is one drawback though, the readability of the text because the lines are too long. If this is the case change your document to 2 columns and you can even decrease the width of the space between the columns. Less white space and less paper yet readable. Linda
great post! thanks for sharing!
I agree, you have to decrease the margins and the font size to save on paper. Motorcycle Fairings
