Can 80’s clothes really be considered vintage?

This is just so bizarre... it is happening.. life moving at an accelerated speed.  I still sometimes write 1999 on checks... (okay it happened once, but it really freaked me out, it was like my brain fritzed out and ran backwards.)

And then I start hearing myself saying things like THAT (above) and it reminds me of when I was a child and listening to adults say time passes so quickly, and I was like "blah blah blah... pa-LEASE... it can't pass fast enough... I want to be old enough to wear makeup, to drive a car, to date."  I am not sure if I remember when time switched from going really slow to fast. Was there one day where it was neutral?  Like an age-equinox?  For me, I guess it was in my mid twenties.

You?

Oh, right, vintage clothing.. so, can 80's clothes be vintage?  I think of vintage as something valuable, and the only value my "Franky Says Relax" tee shirt has to me is all the fond times I remember in it.. skating around the roller rink with leg warmers with my feathered hair wings that touched each other in the back.

Off to listen to some Depeche Mode.

Kassia! YES! Ha! Stir up pants. Man I was so brainwashed back then to think they were cool.
Thanks Jen! Dawn--I almost forgot about parachute pants. Beyond ripped jeans, my most favorite pants were the ones that zippered all the way up both sides! Do you remember those? Does anyone remember tucking your pants into your socks? Or what about those pants with the elastic at the bottom that went around your foot? Gosh I forgot what they are called.
If you're sure about your size, some vintage sites I love to scan are RustyZipper www.rustyzipper.com and Vintage Blues www.vintageblues.com Both ship overseas. Thankfully I haven't seen any HyperColor t-shirts turning up!
Beth! Hypercolor tees!!! My son came home with a pencil like this and I bored him with a story of, "Mommy used to have a shirt that did the same thing!" I am struggling with actually typing in vintageblues....to see clothes I used to wear. "Vintage" is making me feel old and wrinkly.
My favorite 'vintage' store growing up was a place called Wasteland, which has since moved and is now called Mars Mercantile. I found more well-made polyester dresses (in black, that was de rigeur) there... I still have most of my 1980s concert t-shirts, but it was really humbling (read: 'aging') to see a Depeche Mode t-shirt circa Some Great Reward at Crossroads a couple years ago. Ah well...
If anyone (cringe) is looking for leg warmers to bring back the good old days, www.tightsonline.com is selling 100% Demeter wool warmers. All together now, "Lets get physical..."
Hmmm. I understand the dilemma. As I am doing my fiftyrx3 project, I have to categorize my clothing everyday... going for 50% sustainability. Mostly I lump it all under "reused", but then further categorize it as vintage or thrift. I am hoping to add more new "eco" pieces in the mix now that the designs and prices are getting better, but I currently get a lot of style for less with "vintage". So no matter what era, vintage or thrift, I think it is really great to incorporate some of what is already out there. I have also shopped on rustyzipper.com and love flea markets and antique malls. I found some really great pieces on ebay (not always cheap, but well made) like YSL, Oscar de la Renta, Missoni. The other night I wore a vintage de la Renta blouse with a French Connection jean skirt that I bought at the Salvation Army and shortened. If any of your readers want to send me jpegs of their sustainable style I would love to post them.
Love the 80s! You can buy funky 80s leggings at www.welovecolors.com.
handmade crocheted clothing will match your vintage skirts. Check some beautiful designs on www.wholesalesarong.com
Yes! I dont want to argue to anyone about my point of view. clothing that no longer use by anybody or worn-out by time is considered a vintage clothes. If i ask you to wear 1980's mens suits in public places, would you wear it? i dont think so. http://www.eshopone.com
