When airlines were going the way of banks and everyone was in a tizzy over fuel prices, my friend Jim announced what he thought was the next big thing: trains. His declaration stuck in my head because it makes total sense. Compared to Europe – ah, Europe – the U.S. is kind of a train wreck. Are you a tofu fan? Well, your love could be offensive to others - or so says the Colorado DMV.

A Colorado woman wanted to get a vanity license plate that reads "ILVTOFU" to show off her devotion to the 'fu, but state officials explained they don't allow "FU" in vanity plates because "some people could read that as street language for sex."

So obviously, the sensible option was to 1) point out the potentially dirty material to the entire country, and 2) let the other 49 states have a good laugh at their expense. Another job well done, DMV.
