Chicken Soup for the Sick
My husband, Brian, hugged his cold-infected cousin last weekend and, in turn, shared the germy love with me. But I've got the perf remedy thanks to my pal and LA editor Molly: The Soup. It's got some kick for sure, thanks to a healthy dose of pepper and infection-fighting garlic, but it's already nursed me through two colds sans standard meds (i.e., no gnarly chems or wacky medicine head). Bonus: You don't have to be Julia Childs to nail this recipe; just eyeball and adjust the ingredient amounts to your liking.
The Soup
Serves 1 cold-infected Biter for days
Ingredients:
(local and organic whenever possible)
2 boxes or cans of free-range chicken broth
Lots of garlic
Ginger
Juice of 2-4 lemons
Onions
Celery
Carrots
Cilantro or parsley
Lots of pepper
Tofu or cooked chicken (optional)
Brown rice (optional)
Directions:
Put it all together in a pot and simmer until veggies are tender. Add some brown rice per bowl of soup.
