Coconut Oil: One Product Nirvana

how do you use coconut oil on your hair?
Coconut oil is a good natural anti bacterial. I have not tried it as a sex lubricant so I can't comment on that.
My boyfriend uses it on his hair with great success. He just puts a little on his hands and then rubs it in all over his hair. It gives his hair a nice, healthy shine. I tried it but with not the same results. My hair, which is quite fine, just looked flat and matted. Otherwise I use the oil all over my body and it feels great.
When you put it on your hair, are you supposed to wash it off right away, leave it on for a while and then wash it, or just leave it on?
I have color treated fine medium lenght hair & I 've done both. Put a large dollop on freshly shampood (sp?) hair, wrap in a towel, an wait an hour or more, then rinse. Or sometimes I'll just put an amount a little less than the size of a pencil eraser in my palms, rub them together, and spread all over my head (after shampoo & conditioner) for extra shine, & body. But I avoid my root area so It doesn't go too flat. If you have any natural wave in your hair at all, this will accentuate it.
Hi M, Since it works so well for my boyfriend why don't you try it both ways? First, try rubbing the coconut oil in and then rinsing it out. See the results. Then, try putting a bit of it on the ends of your hair. (It may be too heavy near the roots.) Experiment until you get it just right your yourself. Let us know. Marcia
Thanks for the comments! I'll try and see what works for me.
i like the way the (nutiva) oil smells when i first apply it to my skin, but after a few hours the oil develops a smell that i do not like. i notice the same thing on my friend who uses it. and all of my clothes start taking on that oily smell. so, it's not something i'm fond of using.
Interesting. My significant other and I have been using Nutiva oil on our bodies for a couple of years now and love it. We have not noticed any unusual odors at all. We also know a massage therapist who uses the oil on her client's skin. They keep coming back for more and request it each time. I guess everyone is different. Marcia
i wish that i could use it. i wondered if it was a reaction to my skin, but since my friend has the same smell after using it, i realized it must be something to do with the oil itself. maybe the lauric acid? i also do not like the way it gets into my clothes. after a few washes, they smell like rancid oil.
