Correspondence-Envy

You people. You know who you are. You remember birthdays and send a card. You compile great photos from shared experiences and pop them in an envelope accompanied by a perfect slip of stationary. Magically, you even manage to send out your thank you before it seems you have even had time to open the present…

Me? You’re lucky if I even remember to dash off an email to you sometime during the month after your birthday.

Although you can't hold them in your hands, you might feel good about donating 10% to environmental groups by using Three Leaf Cards (http://www.threeleafcards.com/). It works well for us last minute well wishers.

Reminds me of the interview that I did with Tug Boat Press here in San Francisco - they use vegetable inks and make their own paper. http://victoria-e.com/2007/08/06/punky-piercer-runs-a-green-letterpress-...
Is it REALLY more eco-friendly to send an e-card? I often wonder about this question, in other areas besides e-cards. It would seem like there's less impact from using the Internet and our computers, instead of "real" things, but the Internet and computers have their impact, too: the manufacture of the computers, the generating of the electricity, etc. How do you calculate which is more eco-friendly? I think I'll go with recycled cards.
Or you could go totally paperless and play with Jacquie Lawson's site. Her e-cards are nothing short of spectacular. I often go there just to gawk at the cards. There is a fee but these days it is less than the price of three cards, if I remember the fee right. Heck, it might be less than two cards, I haven't looked recently!
The Arbor Day Foundation has Give-A-Tree cards. For $5.95, you get a card and a tree is planted in a national forest. http://www.arborday.org/shopping/giveatree/giveatree.cfm
Three Leaf Cards www.threeleafcards.com is the greenest ecard company out there! They spread the word about climate change and donate to environmental NGOs! The nature cards are the best I've seen.
I have an awesome coworker who bought me a notebook made from elephant poo. It smells like the circus or a barn (because it smells like hay). It's a beautiful notebook and a great talking piece. http://poopoopaper.com/
