Crunch Time

There are two types of people in the world: those who like crunchy peanut butter, and those who like creamy peanut butter. (Technically there are three types if you count those who go into anaphylactic shock if they ingest peanuts, but for the purposes of my rhetoric here, let's stick with two.)

I am a crunchyphile. Personally, I can't understand why anyone would forgo the nutty goodness. ("Yes, I will accept your $1 million gift, but you keep the cash...just give me the rubber bands that hold the bills together.") But then again, I've eaten crayons.

In the interest of promoting dialogue between the two camps, share your peanut preference below, and tell us why. Maybe this is the first step toward world peace...

I once thought I liked crunchy, but these days I prefer creamy. And my favorite creamy, organic peanut butter is from "Once Again Nut Butter, Inc." They use organic palm oil to prevent separation that you get with other natural peanut butters and it works like a charm. I love it!
Okay - so it isn't about peanut butter, but I had to add.... I love PB&J and while I am sure that the jellies and jams you mentioned in todays tip are tastey - I have to recommend Nervous Nellies Jams. I have never had any better. I can't now remember if they are 100% organic (I ate my last jar and haven't ordered any more yet) - but it seems like they might be and I know they are sweetened with cane juice.... A must try for the true PB&J taster :)
I'm a creamy PB man. There are a couple of reasons. First... I'm sort of picky. I don't like my bread to be all mucked up by all those cracked peanuts rolling across as the PB is spread onto it. I won't even spread real butter across my bread without softening the butter first. It's a personal preference, I guess. Second, history. I had braces, and I got really tired of pulling peanuts out of them when I had lunch, ergo the switch to creamy. Third, it melds better with the chocolate chips if there's not so much other stuff in there. Oh, that's how I like my PB - PB & CC. :)
Hands down, nothing beats these exciting crunchy (and noncruchy) flavors from Saratoga Peanut butter company (www.yopeanut.com) I started getting it at a farmer's market in upstate NY and now I am in OHIO and miss the good stuff! Flavors to try include "Adirondack Jack" "New York Maple" and "Monkey Boy"
Great topic! I don't like crunchy peanut butter because it is hard to spread evenly, but there is something missing from creamy pb. BUT - There is a happy medium! Grind your own peanut butter is great because it is mostly creamy, which makes it easily spreadable, but still has little "nuggets" of peanutty goodness! And nothing in it except peanuts (and sometimes salt) so it is even better for you than pre-made!
What about other nut butters... cashew butter, almond butter? They are scrumptious! I agree with Katie on getting mine from stores that let you grind your own...they taste so much fresher.
I'm all about the smooth ;o) I'm with Kim and the other nutters ... i'm a huge fan of Trader Joes cashew macadamia nut butter. My 3yr old can't get enough of the yummy goodness either, slathering it on rice cakes ... and then eating the rest of the jar with her fingers!! Yummy Jamie, PB & CC .. I'm going to have to go make one now :o)
Cashew butter? It sound like it'd be delightfully delicious. I can't wait to find some in my neighborhood. Butter with PB? Ewww... what a throat choking glob of grease.... I couldn't do it. Ugh, I almost puked on my keyboard. The ONLY things I put butter on are baked potatoes and melted in the skillet for makin' [organic, free-range]eggs, other than that, YUK! I don't use any of that fake processed margarine crap either (that's just a glob of carcenogenic [taste like garbage] chemicals anyway). The fresh, grind your own nut-butters sound like they'd be delicious, but you can't find 'em in my neck of the woods. Strange too, because there's a large population of Amish folks around here. You'd think they'd be hip to it, but everyone I've talked to is, like, "What? Never heard of it. You're nice Tim, but you really ask some weird questions... 'course, you hippie/biker guys with that long girlish hair always do ask weird questions... we oughta be used to it by now." Oh well, I'll keep readin' this daily stuff and hopefully learn something. Thanks, ya all... See ya 'round. Tim
I love creamy peanut butter. I will try the cashew macadamia nut butter, it sounds yummy! I love macadamia and cashew. Motorcycle Fairings
Seriously, make your own. Take any kind of nut you like and throw it in your food processor. Set it on grind and away you go. You can make it as chunky or as creamy as you want. It could not be easier and the taste is so much better. You won't ever go back to store bought!
