Design of the Times

"Studies show people fear public speaking more than death," Mike tells me. I can totally relate - for some reason what's in my head (uh, hello, pure genius) comes out, er, not so much. So I was shocked when I remained cool as a goose when presenting my final project during my last sustainable design class. Maybe 'cuz 20 or so hopeful designers were staring back at me, eager to realize McDonough's vision of redesigning everything so that trash cans are what old ladies (me by then) used to use. Possible or pipe dream? Discuss...

this might be slightly off topic, but i notice you guys are always giving lots of attention to gDiapers when there are so many great cloth diaper companies out there too. cloth diapers are a better choice, a cheaper choice, and, i would imagine, even more "cradle to cradle" also.
I've never understood why people fear public speaking more than death! I think because you believe that what is coming out of your mouth is pure genius, others do also :) www.SurvivingSpeakingDisasters.com
I learned a little trick that seems to relieve my fear of public speaking. I sort of split myself into two parts: one is me as a personality, the other is me as a source of information. The personality part gets "to stay home" as it's the one that does all the worrying (how do I look, what will people think of me?). So I focus on being the source of information, thinking that people rely on me to deliver them a message. This way I get distracted from my fear and focus more on a good presentation.
