Eco Under Panties

If there is one place to go eco, it's down under.

As today's Daily Tip says in the "Personally Speaking" area, if you tell us about yours, we'll tell you about ours (and who on the team goes commando).

Off to get dressed... first putting on...nope...  you'll have to check back later to see!!

***** BREAKING NEWS *****

I finally tracked (almost) everyone down. Our official picks:

  • Krista: "Patagonia Hipsters all the way..."
  • Brett couldn't be reached for comment, but if we ever come out with "Biter?" underwear, I'm sure he'd be all over them.
  • Jen: "I used to wear total 'grannies,' but now I live in the Deity Aton ones from GreenLoop, which are a big step up." Thumbs up and bums up, Jen!
  • Heather won't say what kind of underwear she wears, but she did let on that "If I could get away with it, I'd never wear underwear."
  • Personally, I still wear the Fruit of the Looms my mom bought me before sending me off to undergrad. Thanks, Mom!

www.manymoons.biz They sell reusable menstrual products, and....organic cotton undies for women and men. No, I'm not affiliated with them, but decided to buy my first (and probably only, who needs more than one?) thong from them. The cotton is lovely and soft.
Yes, I know that for me, natural undies are a treat! Otherwise, I compromise by buying regular cotton panties, no nylon allowed! (women, especially, need to be wearing natural fiber panties, even if they're not organic.)
I only wear boxer briefs made from organic cotton. Here is where I get them... http://www.cottonfieldllc.com/
The idea of bio-degradable, pesticide free, non-synthetic panties is a great idea. If they don't USE all those extra products, why are they SOOOOO expensive?? How many of us can fill our drawers (dresser) with $24 a pr. underwear. If we're going to be able to be earth friendly in our lifestyle, make it cost friendly so we can afford it. That includes other earth friendly products also. For now I'll have to stick to my pesticide ridden, synthetic panties until I win the lottery.
I am all for environmentalism but the one road I REFUSE to take is the "reusable menstrual products". The thought makes me gag everytime. Good lord.
Interestingly enough, this was my innaugural email - great subject line (I almost marked it as spam!). More and more I've been wearing organic cotton clothing, although it does start to get cost prohibitive. I haven't ventured over to organic skivvies - my cotton boxers seem to work just fine (especially @ ~$10 or less). That website with "reusable menstrual products" was interesting - to say the least! Not sure it'll ever take hold, but there certainly needs to be an alternative to the plastic applicators, which outnumber seashells on my local beach!
i used the keeper for years, which actually is no "dirtier" than using an applicator-free tampon. certainly not for everyone, but it's way cheaper and way better for the environment. as for recyclable pads, they're not really an option for those city dwellers among us without laundry in our apartments. what is the most reasonable way to recycle fabric, btw--not just underwear, but any kind that is no longer wearable?
replying to: djp what to do with old clothes? You can tear up old fabric into long strips and crochet it into rugs, pot holders, baskets etc. Can't afford eco-panties? make your own underwear with your old t-shirts. Trace a pattern of your fave panties, lay it down to create a two part panty. Do some stitching and maybe sew on some lace..imagine some of your old tees on our butt--could be sexy. could be funny.. best luck in recylcing
sadly, i'm too busy to really buy anything new (okay, i keep forgetting to just get new grey boxer briefs...usually jcrew)...so lately, i've resorted to older-but-never-worn boxer shorts, christmas presents from my mom!!! that depresses me just writing it, as a guy in his earlier thiries...my excuse is that i'm too busy starting my own business (even 8 months later!) :) it was fine until last week in the gym locker room, so guy told me i had nice boxer shorts (not sure about his purpose in telling me)... red boxers with white snowflakes!! yes, guys are that pathetic when it comes to socks and underwear!
There is a small company called Decent Exposures that custom makes cotton under clothes and some outer clothes, and even swimwear. I've been buying organic cotton underthings from them for several years, and find their product excellent and their customer service even better. They have a nice website, decentexposures.com. Their prices are not too bad, considering the quality of their products.
