First Time’s Free

The bulk bins are a wonderful thing. I'm big on snacking, so they're key for munchies that aren't brutally unhealthy. So far today (it's 11 a.m. as I write this) I've eaten oatmeal, dried tropical fruit mix, and tamari almonds - all from the bins at the Whole Foods a couple blocks from our office. Another fave: those little honey-sesame candy things. So good.

Just so Toshio doesn't feel alone, I'll also cop to sneaking a little bite from the bins here and there, but these days, I try to limit it to trying things I've never had before. That seems totally reasonable to me. Anyone else out there wanna fess up? Feels good to get it off your chest, people...

Snacks are great, but I visit the bulk bins once every 2 weeks or so to stock up on ingredients for granola. Oatmeal, wheatgerm, honey, seeds, nuts, bit of oil...toss them all together and roast on low heat and you have a great snack. There's something about the bulk bins though. Don't stock up on grains that you don't plan to use within, say, 2 months or so. One word: WEEVILS.
I'm sorry that you and Toshio "snack" from the bins. You drive up the cost of those products for consumers like me who are honest. Just put a little in a bag and take it to the til and pay for it. If you don't like it, put it in your compost pile.
Ok, this "tip" really bugs me...KEEP YOUR HANDS OUT and STOP STEALING from the bulk bins! Sure, you don't have to physically stick your dirty hands into the bulk bin for a "free sample" but keep them out of my pocket. Bulk could be cheaper and more appealing to a larger amount of people if we just use it honestly. Do you open a box of cereal to sample just one corn flake? Keep your hands out and keep our simple foods clean and affordable!
Christine, I agree. Personally, I'd rather attempt to eat more health related foods that are as fresh as possible. -Steven DaScoop on the Latest Freebies http://dascoop.info
