I admit it, I’m cheap. I’ll splurge on some things like travel or a great jacket but in general I like a bargain - even more when it comes from being green. So this weekend, I had to stock up on kitchen and bath supplies because I moved into my own place after living with roommates and woke up on Sunday morning without a spoon. Image: Me scooping out chicken salad with a tea infuser.
So I walked to a nearby Goodwill and checked out what they had first. Score…four white, modern Crate & Barrel dinner plates and a bag of silverware for eight bucks (this is San Francisco so that’s probably even high for some). Other green bargains I uncovered:
Target: I love my new spatula (is that weird?). It’s from their Natural Home line and it’s made from recycled stainless steel with a bamboo handle and was like $3. They’ve got organic sheets too in gorgeous colors. Also: I didn’t want to go with a PVC-based shower curtain so I found an EVA-based one (no toxic phthalates or BPA) and it doesn’t have that fume-y smell the other ones do. Target had them on the cheap.
Macys: They have a deal on organic towels right now for $20, plush and large ones too. Considering I’ve seen nonorganic ones (think pesticides running off soil into groundwater and ending up in your shower) for the same price, I say this is a steal. Check West Elm too and save a dollar.
