The Glass Key

Before the antiplastic bag craze, I used to reuse them to wrap my lunch sandwiches (def got a strange look from at least one coworker). I never really buy Saran Wrap, foil, or Ziplocs, tho' I've snagged a couple from roommates preflight.

Last week, I tried my 'mates' glass "Tupperware" from IKEA (reminds me of my mom's Tupperware parties in the '80s without the plastic or bad outfits). I cooked up my best dish of grilled chicken, spinach, and parm cheese and tossed it in there before work - only to have it spill the savory juices inside my handbag on the way. Sure, I shoulda had the smarts to keep it upright (kinda like the time I put a pizza box in the oven to warm it up and it started smoking...will my family ever let me live that down?). This week: lentils, feta, and the best farmers market tomatoes I've ever tasted - and no spilling.

These sound great I have been looking for something like this to put in my kids lunch.
The Ikea glass containers are great! Try a couple rubber bands to keep it closed. Beth, just know they might be too heavy for a kids lunch box.
Sorry but I disagree with your tip for today...at least partially. Tupperware is safe to use! There aren't any toxins to leach out in the food!
i would love to try some samples. Thank you
Pyrex glass ware is the perfect alternative to plastic containers and it's made in USA. No more plastics at my house.
I love the little tiffin!-my hubby & I have been wanting them ever since we saw them on TV (it was in Britain or India...) Thanks so much for the link.
Actually Julie you may be incorrect. Tupperware is made with polycarbonates and BPA. So heating foods in the microwave could cause chemicals to leach. here's their link. http://order.tupperware.com/coe/app/tup_widget.show_page?fv_page_code=sa...
Pyrex. Made in USA.
The Wrap-N-Mat website suggests wrapping your sandwich in wax paper. Why not use a cloth napkin then?
I used to work at World Kitchen (the company that makes and markets CorningWare, Pyrex, Corelle, etc.) and got a lot of their dishes for free over my time there. We've used those a lot--not only are they really attractive for serving, but you can bake in them and then store, so you have less dishes (good for the environment *and* for lazy people like me! ;) ). This dish (the Pop-Ins 20oz French White soup mug with cover) http://www.shopworldkitchen.com/index.asp?pageID=231&curpage=2&UPC=71160... is really helpful for work. It holds an entire can of Chunky-type soup, and you can put liquids in it without anything leaking--just try it. My coworker proved it to me by filling it with water and juggling it! They also make plastic lids with a pop-up tab for microwaving to fit a variety of Pyrex dishes. They're awesome.
