Go Meat...Free
I eat meat...don't kill me. I think it stems from having very little when I was young. My older sister Brooke decided that she would only eat chicken...no red meat, pork, or fish - just chicken. So instead of making two different meals for the fam, my mother went heavy on the chicken. We didn't mind but as I grew older I craved meat and surprisingly, chicken.
But yesterday I had a meat up (buh-dum) with Yves Potvin of Gardein (garden + protein) to sample his new line of dinners. They are all meat-free, made up of soy, grains, and veggies, and come refrigerated or frozen. To my surprise, they were good...seriously. I tasted the buffalo wings and seven grain crispy tenders (coming this Fall) but the front runners were the Santa Fe Good Stuffed (available now) with black beans and corn rolled up in "chicken" with a southwestern style sauce, and my fave by far: the you'll-never-guess-it's-not-chicken lemony Chick'n Scallopini (see pic; available in the Fall). So. Good.
Check out all their other dishes like BBQ Skewers, BBQ Pulled Pork, and Tuscan Breasts available at grocery stores like Whole Foods, Gristedes, Koger, Safeway, and Stop and Shop. Plus, they have recipes too. Yum.
