The Great Dehydration Scare

Who knew that we were all at such risk of constant dehydration? I mean pick up a magazine or watch an ad on tv, and sooner or later, you'll be convinced that your body is in severe need of hydration, electrolytically imbalanced and lacking in peak performance.

Oh puhlease.  When I grew up, kids playing sports drank... well, water.  And that water?  It came from a tap, not a plastic bottle with a label.

But if I were buying the need for electrolytic sports drinks (and trust me - as a girl who occasionally imbibes too much of a different kind of liquid, there is something miraculous about potassium-laden sports drinks for a hangover cure), you can rest assured that I would be reaching for the ONE Natural Coconut water.  As with many things, I was a complete skeptic until I tried it.

I promise - that stuff is GOOD.

-Heather... off to remember a world where a bench of kids playing basketball all drank out of the same refillable water bottles...

What is the difference between coconut milk and coconut water? Can you get the coconut water out of a fresh coconut?
I'm allergic to coconut! Although it's a little-known allergy, people should (obviously) make sure they're taking appropriate precautions before trying something new.
you should pick up The Coconut Oil Miracle - it has everything you need to know about coconuts and healing! i love it!
I have been drinking ONE Coconut Water for 3 months. My hair and skin have never looked as good as they do now!! I highly recommend to everyone! www.onecoconutwater.com
Copied from website: O.N.E.™ is 100% natural coconut water, which is the water inside a young green coconut. It is naturally filtered for nine months through the dense fibers of the coconut creating a nutritious, pure and refreshing isotonic beverage. O.N.E.™ is 100% natural and has five essential electrolytes, more potassium than a banana, no added sugars, no fat, no cholesterol and no preservatives. O.N.E.™ is not the milk that is derived from the meat of the older brown coconuts.
Hey Angie- Here's your answer: The liquid inside the coconut is the water, while the milk "is made by pureeing a mixture of coconut meat and water, then straining it to remove some of the fat." http://www.slashfood.com/2006/05/06/coconut-milk-vs-coconut-cream-vs-coc...
Hi Cathy, Coconut Water is actualy non-allergenic. Coconut Cures by Bruce Fife, ND page 145
I didn't see it at my Whole Foods, I'll have to look again. Are you guys buying yours at stores or ordering it through the website? What does it taste like - is it sweet?
One statement on their website cracked me up: "O.N.E.™ can be consumed on long airplane rides, especially by people suffering from Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)." RIIIIGHT. It would be NICE to be able to consume it on long airplane rides (I travel a lot) if we weren't living in a "you-can't-take-anything-on-an-airplane-that's-not-piece-of-clothing-or-a-shoe" society. Airport security would throw that stuff in the garbage so fast - quicker than when they threw my brand new toothpaste away because it was 4 ounces (the limit is 3 ounces...) Grr.
Hey JB - I got mine at Whole Foods (actually, first encountered it at the WF in the Time Warner Center in NYC). It's "sweet-ish," is about the best way to describe it. Coconut in general seems sort of sweet to me - even with no sugar added - so it has that sense about it (sort of in the way that even plain soy milk can taste sweet). However, unlike soy milk, this is mainly clear and not at all thick. Good stuff, all around. I'll just have to remember not to take it on the plane. ;)
