If the Shoe Fits...

On my way to work this morning, I spotted a tied-up pair of sneaks hanging over a street sign. Nice…like the time my friend left her old boots on the sidewalk in case another girl with size 10 feet happened to walk by and want them (likely, they were picked up with the trash, like the 12.7 million tons of shoes that end up in landfills each year). So if not on a sign post or sidewalk or in landfill, then how 'bout giving your old clogs to Goodwill (if they're still wearable), or a cobbler to revive them (and if you still don't want 'em, swap them), or if they're running shoes, recycle them? Better, if you're like me during my more-strapped-for-cash days, sell them to a resale shop (we have Crossroads in SF, but there's always eBay) for lunch money.

I came to the blog to add my tip for organic hair care: miessence certified organics from www.anniesorganics.com (they have organic shampoo, conditioner, hair rinse, hair repair and hair gel!). But I'll add my shoe story.... my favorite black boots (it's winter here in Australia) that I've had for over five years and have re-soled many times are slowly dying and until I get the zipper fixed are unwearable... after searching in vain for hours in Melbourne for suitable replacements (the only good ones were from Camper and over $400!) I gave up and went home, but stopped at the local charity shop on the way home and found a great pair (all leather, made in italy, perfect size) for only $6.50!! I love it when I can be eco-friendly and save a few hundred dollars at the same time :-) I'll still keep getting the old ones fixed as long as I can, you can never have too many pairs of black boots, at least not in Melbourne, where even my three-year-old's favorite color is black! LOL :-)
I agree, if you have old shoes or any clothing really, you should always make the effort to get to a goodwill store. It is much better than filling up a landfill.
Sneeks is not my target anymore, most times, I worn those more feminim shoes to fit my apparel style. But once in a while, I also need one good pair of sports shoes to go out with my montain bike for a happy outdoor adventure.
