ISO a Bloodsucker

It just started last weekend. I woke up Sunday morning with a bunch of mosquito bites. Monday I had a few fresh ones, so I ruled out the possibility that this was a one-time deal, the result of spending too much time in my friend's backyard hammock, sans bug spray, on Saturday.

Monday night I spied one. There's at least one mosquito living in my bedroom. I spent about half an hour in hot pursuit, gave up, and watched Lost on DVD. This morning, yet again, my epidermis was reeling and red from last night's assault.

Thankfully, I came into the office this morning, and it was my lucky day - there's a sample of Burt's Bees repellent in our editorial library. Cross your fingers that I'll wake up tomorrow with no new bites...

Washing and Shampooing with Tea Tree Oil products such as Dr. Bronner's organic tea tree liquid castile soap and Nature's Gate tea tree shampoo can really help repel ticks and mosquitoes. Also a nice vanilla scent can discourage the little buggers!
I have horrible reactions to mosquito bites. I swell so much I actually bruise, so it is really important to me not to get bit. I have been using Blooming Lotus Bite Back! DEET free and no bites. And Blooming Lotus is a great company with great customer service. Thank you Ideal Bite for turning me on to the Chocolate Rose Body Polish also!
TheraNeem Leaf & Oil brand Herbal Outdoor Spray works really really well and doesn't irritate my skin like most products do. It doesn't smell like you bathed in raid, either. To keep mosquitos out of my office or house, I burn sweetgrass incense. They don't like it.
I am totally bummed that I received todays Ideal Bite and it was missing our product - the worlds greatest 100% natural mosquito repellent ;-( Now it is time to get the very best!!! It smells so darn good I use it even when there aren't any mosquitoes to repel or as a great sunburn treatment. Try the best: http://sensatia.com/body/essentials/botanical_bug-off.en.php
I recently read that catnip oil can repel mosquitoes. So, yesterday I bought 2 plants for my back porch. We'll see if having the actual plant helps, and I also plan to dilute some for my skin. In the meantime, my cats are having fun getting high.
I just use Patchouli essential oil. Not the watered down synthetic stuff that you can buy for $2.00 an ounce at festivals and fairs but the real deal imported from organic farms in India and Java. A couple drops a day and you are good to go. I have been mosquito bite free for over 5 years now. Though I am aware some people can have reactions to true essential oils, it is something to look into. Outside we have planted Lavendar, Basil and other herbs to keep hostile bugs away. Allowing beneficial insect and arachnids to grow in your yard helps to keep the biting insect away as well. Watch the neem in the yard as it is not choosy on what insects it kills.
Buzz Away also works very well, especially for those wicked No Seeums!!
try citronella oil
Little brown bats are also a great weapon in the war against mosquitos. They eat the little buggers therefore elimitating their presence for your outdoor enjoyment. We have bats that live in the big old trees in my neighborhood and I've also considered installing a bat box like this one: http://www.care2.com/greenliving/make-your-own-bat-box.html
