ISO a Bloodsucker

It just started last weekend. I woke up Sunday morning with a bunch of mosquito bites. Monday I had a few fresh ones, so I ruled out the possibility that this was a one-time deal, the result of spending too much time in my friend's backyard hammock, sans bug spray, on Saturday.

Monday night I spied one. There's at least one mosquito living in my bedroom. I spent about half an hour in hot pursuit, gave up, and watched Lost on DVD. This morning, yet again, my epidermis was reeling and red from last night's assault.

Thankfully, I came into the office this morning, and it was my lucky day - there's a sample of Burt's Bees repellent in our editorial library. Cross your fingers that I'll wake up tomorrow with no new bites...

I actually use the gold bar (I buy my environmentally safe products wholesale. The gold bar is a soap that contains tea tree oil. I believe the smell from the soap repels mosquitos. Before starting to use the products, I was a magnet for mosquitos. Funny story (true story) I was getting ready for a date and a mosquito decided to bite me right above my eye that morning. By late afternoon, I had a bruised, bloated eye. You can imagine how that date went...I was 15 at the time, so of course the world ended that day :). Now I have a two year old and one on the way. www.budgetgreen.com
Hi all, I have been using the "Don't Bug Me Patch" I liked it so much I have gotten involved with the company and am helping them get into local stores through out the U.S. It is great!
hmmm, wonder if this could be the solution to global warming - Don't Bug Me Patch - protects up to 36 hours by ingeniously MASKING YOUR CO2 EMISSIONS, which is what attracts skeeters ($5/5 patches).
Does anyone know if any bug repellants are safe for use on dogs? For a recent camping trip, we bought some citronella patches intended for human babies, and we stuck them all over our dogs, but the mosquitoes simply avoided the patches and bit around them. (Under a magnifying glass, we probably would have been able to see that the mosquitoes were laughing at us.)
In a recent issue of Backpacker Magazine, they did a controlled study of many insect repellants - DEET, other synthetics, and many natural products. They emphasized the active ingredients, rather than specific brands (though they did name the specific brands tested). While a DEET product rated highest for repelling mosquitoes, the information presented on other options helped us to find a natural product, containing lemon eucalyptus, that is safe and effective for our needs.
What is the deal with DEET? Does it cause autism or cancer?? I read that there have been >4 Billion doses used and so far, no real problems as long as one does not use a high percentage product. There are 20% controlled release preparations that repel malarious and dengue-carrying mozzies for 10-12 hours. Please enlighten me, Oh Enlightened Bitten!
I just blogged about this very subject - http://soap-queen.blogspot.com/2007/07/palma-rosa.html Catnip EO is very good for helping with mosquitoes as well as Palma Rosa EO.
cheap and easy thing to try: eat citrus! apparently critters don't like our emmissions after eating oranges and grapefruits. my college bio teacher suggested it seeing as i'm allergic to everything. and i am very rarely bitten.
Kathleen: Cheval International makes an all natural herbal supplement for dogs and horses that stops all biting insects--flies, mosquitoes, etc. Check them out at: http://www.chevalinternational.com/page8.html They have alot of great products for animals, all chemical-free.
What about a mosquito net over your bed? Way more romantic than those greasy repellents (which repel more than mosquitos, in my opinion) or are you happy to sleep alone?
