Jealous Wedding Guest

At weddings when I was little I coveted the roles of both the ringbearer and the flower girl. Take your pick - I would've been stellar at either one. You grow up, and your desires/jealousies change. Now I covet all the wedding gifts (although the whole "blissful matrimony" thing seems pretty cool as well). I need a new toaster oven. I could really use a quality wine corker.

Wedding registries are pretty much awesome for all involved - the couple gets exactly what they want, and there's absolutely no guesswork involved on the part of the giver. Happy couple, happy guest. What really has me jonesing to tie the knot, now, are all the new green gift registries that offer stuff I would so totally use. Organic bedding? Check. Bamboo tableware? Check. Finally an alternative for those of us who go for stuff not usually found at Pier 1. 

-Toshio... off to think about what a great flower girl I woulda made...

I love all the new eco-stuff. I even work as a sales rep for a couple of companies that sell these items! It think it's all amazing. But I feel it's irresponsible to register for new stuff if I don't really need it. As two established household that combined, my fiance and I have too much stuff - usable, if not lovely and new and super-green. We have a very small registry, as well as an I Do Foundation charities list.

I'm not getting married but was intrigued by the "bite" today (feb 14/07). I travel alot (both work and pleasure) and noticed the link to sendusoff. This site has GREAT info for any traveller.... honeymoon or not. So thanks for making the bites informative for everyone if we take the time to peruse.

Green or not, registries fade over quickly into "gimme" lists. A wedding gift should be a token of your guest's affection for you and hopes for your happiness, not necessary equipment that you direct your friends and family to provide for you. As long as we're straight on that.

I read that organic valley along with some other major names in organic milk are pushing to lower the standards organic products. Get it straight from the farm and then you know where your food comes from. You can get raw dairy products, pastures eggs and meats and there's less processing.

I would have loved to also see a mention of registering at a site like www.justgive.com, where guests can donate money to charities of your choice in your name rather than giving gifts. Rather than getting gifts in huge amounts of packaging (and that's not always recyclable), the energy used to produce and ship it, etc, wouldn't this be one of the "greenest" kinds of wedding gift? - as well as contributing to nonprofits that really could use the funds!
