If you want to support restaurants in your area that are already on the ball, try http://www.eatwellguide.org/ This site lets you search for restaurants (by zip code) that use sustainably raised meat, dairy, poultry, etc. You can always add a listing if you know of one that's not there.
In regards to recycled glass home products. You should check out enviroglasproducts.com. They offer counter-top slabs, plank tiles, and flooring made of recycled glass and porcelain. The finished product does not require a sealer meaning minimum maintenance and it will last the life of the building, or longer. Best of all, the combinations of colors are limitless! So next time you recycle a bottle of beer or wine you can think....someone may be walking on this someday.
Re: recycled glass tiles and Oceanside: This summer we were selecting ( a green ) tile for our bath and we wanted one of Oceanside's tile products. They were increasing the wait time to ship their products because they had recently moved the manufacturing plant to Mexico and the old supervisers weren't able to force the new, low-wage workers to work faster, so they were being replaced with people who could force higher productivity!! Needless to say, our tile shop was appalled by this, as were we, and we selected something else! FYI! Karen
