I bring my own mug to the coffee stores and work we've planted 7 trees in the yard (big yard) I use a resuable water bottle recycle everything I can
I have completely gotten all toxic chems out of my house by today's deadline (my personal deadline). I've also gotten my daughter and her friends to stop using paper plates and plastic bags. Not easy for teenage girls!
I have changed all light bulbs in the house to CFLs. And I use a reusable water container to take with me wherever I go. I also use earth-friendly cat litter for my kitty. And I actually enjoy shopping with my own totes as opposed to having the stores bag with plastic!
I plan on biking to work and carpooling to a meeting further away.
Today will mark the start of 2 family vegetarian days a week. I don't think I could convince the family to give it up 100%, but did get buy in on 2 meatless days a week!
I recycle every day, have just recycled two plastic bottles, and yesterday a soup can. but all my plastic bottles and paper waste is recycled all the time. today i have done this, tomorrow i will do this, and the next day. Today I will shop making sure the packaging on the stuff i buy is easy to recycle
I unplug everything when it is not in use-everyday/night. I hang dry all of my laundry...I go by the motto-if it is yellow let it mellow. If it is brown flush it down. I use a bucket to catch all of the cold water (until the water is warm enough) when taking showers-I then use this water to flush the toilet. I use a similar method when washing my face and hands. I take reusable bags with me to the grocery store and farmer's market and politely decline the use of plastic bags when shopping for clothing items, etc...while making a comment about the environment. I have convinced my friends and family to do the same...and plan to incorporate many more changes into my lifestyle.
World Market is giving away free tote bags with every $10 purchase.
I have started a worm composting bin and just harvested my first castings last week. My plants were ecstatic! I'm also trying to grow some veggies and herbs and am altering my food choices with help from Sophie Uliano's new book The Gorgeously Green Diet - not a weightloss plan, a green-gaining plan! After three days I'm already feeling more energy and better in general. I love her Gorgeously Green stuff and supplementing her tips for eco-nomical living with my daily bite!
I will be planting a tree and taking recycling from my work. and continually trying to convince them to get bins... :)
