Let's Talk About Hair...

Whenever I’m hanging out with my girlfriends, the subject of hair always seems to come up (and we’re really not those kinda girls). The latest hot hair topic: swapping baking soda for shampoo. Sounds sorta crunchy, I know, but these girls (light-green-minded and dare I say sassy) were raving. While I was stroking their manes to get a feel (felt thick and straw-like, but I'm not always going around touching friends’ hair so…) they told me it takes two feeling-gross-and-greasy weeks before it’s supposed to restore your hair’s natural pH balance/oils - something conventional shampoos muck up.

I have yet to try it (too close to that egg wash that went awry in high school), but it inspired me to look into other DIY hair remedies for you. Here’s what I got: olive oil for dry hair/mint for oily, avocado + mayo for deep conditioning (honey too), espresso coffee to cover gray, vinegar for dandruff, and my fave (before this post gets too girly, one for the guys): coconut oil for hair loss. Got a hair trick? Spill it below.

My hair has been every color from dark brown to red to platinum (and pretty much everything in between). Now it's golden blond, and at my last hair appointment, my stylist was like, "What kind of conditioner are you using?" and I mentioned a few eco-ish brands, and he was like, "Honey, I think your hair needs something WAY beyond organic." So, I still use an eco shampoo by Seva, but he prescribed a heavy duty Kerastase conditioner for me. My secret to curing my damaged hair? Rarely washing it. My mane is long, thick, and holds onto moisture, hence, it's never a quick blow-and-go for me. On the days in between, I do the ol' baby powder in the roots trick which buys me another day or so.
Weleda's Rosemary Hair Oil is my all-time fave for my hair. I once had a really strange healing crisis, where I was super-sensitive to EVERYTHING.... even my VERY eco-friendly shampoo, and the only thing I could handle was fresh rosemary from my garden rubbed into my scalp, and then rinsed out with warm water. It worked just great! Lately I've been into coconut oil, so I put some on my hair... especially the drier top and ends, and then wash it with my fave eco-shampoo. No need for conditioner!
I left my hair up as long as I could yesterday, even went to the dump and ran errands with my bridal hair, but in the evening I took the pins out because they were uncomfortable. The curl had fallen out after about two hours. The teasing? OH MY. It’s now 38 hours later and it is STILL going strong! lol. I don’t know how I’m ever going to get it out. lol. I’d mentioned my first wedding day, how I wanted my hair straight and teased in the back just a little bit and how it’d fallen just minutes after I left the salon, so I guess she made sure it wasn’t going to fall. lol. We have to leave for our honeymoon early the morning after the wedding and so, like today, I should be able to just pin it up and go. R4 Card

I've only officially been on my hair journey since January testking 642-654. Now that my hair is healthy, I'm starting to retain a lot more length and thickness testking 642-655. Health was my first goal, now I'm working on getting from SL to at least MBL testking 642-971. The only set back I had was underprocessing the back, but I think I can fix that with my next relaxer.
