Personal and Professional Suicide

Flatulence is a topic that's near and dear to my heart. No, really.
Like putting your elbows on the table and exposing the hair on your back, it's one of those things that's totally natural but is just not acceptable in most circumstances.
A few weeks ago, this dude let one rip during my yoga class. Yoga's all about being comfortable with your body, and nobody said anything. But I, for one, was thinking, "Dude, I commend you on breaking the rules by breaking wind - even though we're in this small, enclosed space." I really wish we lived in a world where it was OK to cut the cheese without shame - as long as we aim away from other people. Until then, there are natural gas relief tabs.

It's pretty funny that at 30 years old fart jokes still make me giggle. Thanks for the (even more) light-hearted tip today :)
Why not address the underlying issue?? Gas is created by poor digestion. Whether you are veggie or carnivorous, improper food combining or lack of chewing enough (the first, and extremely important phase of digestion) will assuredly create gas. For those who chew well, but are lacking in the digestive enzyme department, there are numerous enzymes (not just beano) on the market. Sometimes a person needs protein enzymes...sometimes milk product enzymes...some people can't handle carbs. Learn by experimentation what causes distress, and alter your eating habits! Some foods should never be eaten together--for example, there is a saying about melons: "eat it alone, or leave it alone". This is because melon takes very little time to digest, moving quickly out of the stomach. Other foods take longer. If you mix them, one food will pull the other into the intestines before it has completed the stomach digestion process, thereby creating GAS! There are food combining charts to help guide you...I think that peole who pass gas all the time simply need an education in this area, and then the desire to improve their health and be more considerate of those breathing the air around them.
Another immature tip (like the boinking your neighbor tip) that keeps me from recommending this site to friends. However, mixed in with these dumb tips are some very helpful ones such as yesterday's tip on PVC. I just wish you could change the tone from trying to be edgy and hip and just be informative. Clearly you are trying to market mainly to the under 30 crowd.
In full agreement with Susan on the proper digestion to alleviate gas. In studying yoga, although gas is normal and happens to us all, when it happens with odor, then it's due to indigestion. For years, I've been working on balancing my diet, most especially because of the gas-factor. I was tired of taking supplements and feeding my body this for my pancreas and that for my gall-bladder every time I ate food just so the food I ate was properly broken down. Then I tried another enzyme that worked best in this process - Rainbow Light's Plant Source Advanced Enzyme System. I liked not farting all the time, but still I was tired of popping yet another pill! Then, I starting eating 80-90% raw vegan foods and everything and my world changed! Seriously, I'm not hear to sell this diet, but if you have ANY concerns about energy loss, tiredness, lack of happiness, skin problems, gas problems, hence digestive problems, well I have to get on my soap box and say that ALL of it is gone. Seriously, the amount of time the body takes to digest food and uses it for energy (if, in fact, it was broken down and distributed to all necessary sources in the body)is a long time. With proper food complementing and diet factors - fats, proteins, fiber, veges, hydration - exercise, rest - in body and mind - we can be assured to find ways to eliminate waste and toxins with offending anyone in another small closed-in area, and feel energetically alive, happy and healthy. This is a long blog, but I'm passionate about health and this subject was an issue for way too long and I feel it's important to share here. Thank you for bringing up this subject as I feel we need to be open and free about all things if we're here to help each other be who we are - happy and healthy! Peace!
The fact is no one diet works for everyone, because we are all different. Ultimately, finding a diet that works for you takes trial and error. Some people do great on an mostly/all-raw/vegan diet and some people do not. The key is experimentation and elimination. You create different menus, such as at breakfast and try a different one each morning and see how you feel throughout the early day. Obviously no one thrives eating processed/animal-heavy/sugary/white-flour foods, but there are even very healthy grains or veggies that some people do not tolerate well and may not realize it. It is true that people who have optimal intestinal health, and eat a mostly plant-based diet, shouldn't have wretched-smelling farts or even poos every day. Sometimes, a good cleansing of the colon is in order. If you eat alot of beans, you can eliminate most of the gas-producing stuff by soaking them sufficiently and washing them off before cooking. adding cumin helps with gas, i've found as well.
I used to use BEANO for my dog, who was a major polluter......but two years ago I changed all 3 of my dogs to the BARF (bones and raw foods) diet (see SIT STAY DOG site) and find now that all 3 have no gas, shinier coats and are living longer, healthier lives..... and nuts to the guy with no sense of humor who doesn't like the words "fart" and "boinking"......they ought to have "poor humor management" classes (instead of the usual "anger management" classes) for peoplewho can't laugh a little more.....sheeezzzz.
Well... after having a baby and doing 10 years of kegel exercises, that area still shows no sign of control! (Sorry to those who havent had a baby and dont want to hear these details) Please know we arent all being rude, just cant help it!!
after i stopped laughing, my first comment was, "oh, shite! how funny!" i just turned 60 and am rather healthy and working at bettering "rather." i'm also working at losing 40 miserable fat gobbules that have pestered me for the past seven years. i, too, dealt with the "poor social habit" of gastrointestinal fortitude or lack thereof, for years. just cutting out the beef has helped immensely. i am losing weight, feel better and am not embarrassing myself nearly as much--at home or in making myself a No. 1 Public Nusciance (sp???). i appreciate your tips, regardless of the subject--if i don't like it (them), i can just turn the channel, as they say! that's my freedom as an american--i can choose to read or not to read... Shalom, all--jana
If Susan is still reading this post, would she mind sharing a good site reference for the food combining chart? I've seen a few, but since they all seem to be different I wonder which is right. Danielle, I am also about 85% Raw 100% Vegan, and have never felt better. I am an believer of this lifestyle, and an an assistant organizer of a Raw Vegan Meetup group. Toot'in & poot'in and passin the gas, if you don't like it you can kiss my #&&!!
lighten up, DLT!
