My portable supper for work every night is OJ with Calcium, milled flax seed, Stonyfield Farm yogurt, one banana, frozen wild blueberries (more antixodents than regular), frozen cranberries (to avoid nasty UTIs), frozen cherries, and sometimes organic tofu. Other fruits and veg work well too, for variety...carrot, celery, beet, watermelon, pear, apple, etc. Warning, normally yummy bean sprouts are bad in a smoothie. Blended and poured into a stainless steel thermos. Stays cold for hours and makes a very satisfying supper. My co-workers are not exactly jealous as they think I am nuts to not 'eat' supper.
Along with the cleaning supplies and personal care products, Melaleuca also has some really yummy shakes and bars in their arsenal of products. I just tried a Chocolate Carmel Cruncher last night and I might give up my candy for those little gems. Thinking back, my mom used to make me protein shakes for breakfast when I was in highschool just to make sure that I had some form of breakfast before I left for the day since I chose sleep over eating most mornings. Good stuff.
Imagine my surprise to see "Bozeman office" listed on this blog that my sister turned my onto about a week ago! For those of us in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana, Azure Standard offers natural and organic items delivered monthly. I get together with friends to place orders. See www.azurestandard.com/ Folks in other places may have different options. See http://www.unfi.com/Default.aspx I mention them because I can get 10# bags of "natural" berries MUCH cheaper than at Costco or the Co-op. Yes, it's too much for one person, so split it with a couple of friends. Also, beware of the overuse of the word "natural." Of course fruit is natural--it's not a Cheeto. That doesn't mean chemicals weren't used on it.
Here's my daily breakfast: 1 Cup low-fat plain kefir 1 Cup Mixed Berries (also the Costco line) 1 TBS flax meal 1 TBS raw honey (Really Raw brand is yum!) 1/2 tsp almond extract (alcohol-free) This little concoction is sooooo yummy. My hubby, who is leary of anything "too healthy" tasting loves this. That's how I know it's a winner! I'm considering adding some "Goatein" powder by Garden of Life. It's goat milk protein powder.
I stopped at Whole Foods tonight, and there was not ONE CAN or packet of Spirutein on the shelves. I've seen it there before, so maybe it was sold out after your post appeared.
Are there any smoothie shops that use healthy, organic, ingredients? I'm a freshman in college so dorm life isn't exactly ideal for making my own.
Hi Ideal Bite, I'd like to draw your attention to a website featuring an unusual comic called "Let it Steep!". Most comic strips are sarcastic and cynical, some dark and violent. This is not one of them. This is a gentle look at universal spiritual development and personal growth. The purpose of "Let it Steep!" is to showcase the wonderful concepts and thoughts that support this awakening to a more expansive consciousness. Please visit the website and revisit now and then as I add to it when I can. www.letitsteep.com Thanks, Terry Post
