Put On a Lil’ Lipstick

I'm fair, freckly, and blonde, and was not blessed with naturally rosy lips. So I like to wear punchy lip colors like pinks and reds to compliment my green eyes so that my face isn't monochromatic and washed-out.

I come from a lineage of lipstick-devotees. For as long as I can remember, my mom is always armed with a magenta tube of lipstick (my aunt actually bought her a sign that says, "Put on a little lipstick and you'll be fine"), and my grandmother - even when she was well into her 80s - used to ask me to grab her a lil' lipstick.

I have a collection (well, stockpile) of countless lipsticks, glosses, plumpers, lip balms, and lip stains in an array of hues and brands. It's scary to think of all the questionable chems I've ingested over the years, but now I make sure that I get only the most eco-licious lipsticks. Have a fave? Do share.

For those searching for balms you should check out the tip library for the tip from Jan 8, 2008 -Your Shining Face. I was looking for a great moisturizing balm that would be least likely to cause an allergic reaction (I am not allergic to nuts normally, but my lips could not take balms with nut oils, butters). From another blog, I found the best item that worked for me was Pot of Gold Balm. www.potofgoldbalm.co.nz Very moisturizing, but horrible taste. The makers told me they are developing a better tasting balm specific for lips. It may seem pricey, but it comes in a 50g pot that lasts a long time. Plus you can try out a "free" sample. I have gotten used to the flavor. Next in the line of my trials I found that Chop Saver worked well. It has a citrus scent and flavor. I think they just came out with one that contains sunscreen too. www.chopsaver.com Lastly, I found Dr. Bronner's & Sundog's Organic Lip Balm Naked to work well. It has a bland flavor and not as moisturizing as the other two. It can be found easier, though, at places like Whole Foods. www.drbronnersundog.com
I use lip balm from cupcakebathshoppe.com It is a company run by a WAHM who makes all natural products that are AFFORDABLE. Usually natural products are more expensive, but she keeps it affordable. I am a recurrent customer and I am HOOKED. lol. Everything is natural, and MADE FROM SCRATCH. No soap or body bases, and NO chemicals at all! The balm stays on well during working out and at the pool. which is why I love it! Totally affordable. She also carries Cold process soap, scrubs, creams and more. Owner is super friendly too. If you have questions email her she has no problems with answering questions or helping you with an order. http://cupcakebathshoppe.com
one of my college girlfriends just started this awesome website that sells natural makeup from a bunch of different lines. my favorite organic lipstick is called afterglow, but I also like this one by a company called sevi. if you're looking for great and affordable natural makeup with a wide selection, you should really check out her site, The Simple Body. http://thesimplebody.com/
I really like the Zuzu Luxe lipgloss in the colour "Mania". It's a pinky-plum colour, with no shimmer or sparkle and adds a slight stain to the lips. It has no detectable flavour or scent. These are the ingredients: (from their website) Castor Oil, Isopropyl Palmitate, Bis-Diglyceryl Caprylate, Bisabalol, Candelilla Wax, Glycerine, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Wheat Germ Glycerides, Aloe Vera Extract, Chamomile Extract , Jojoba Esters, Grapeseed Extract, Bixane Herb, Iron Oxides, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, St. John’s Wort Extract.
Linda, a lip balm with marijuana as one of the ingredients? I wonder how it feels when you put them on.
I like the Sevi lip gloss a lot. also a really nice one called 100% pure.
I swear by Hemp Organics lipsticks. They come in a basic range of colors, made w/ hemp oil and organic beeswax, no petrol, no lead, no fragrance. I get mine at Whole Foods but yu can find it online.
Oh Linda. Since you're not really adding anything to the conversation, how about a nice glob of vaseline and some chamomile tea to soothe that anger? Poor thing. Hates eco-balms so much, she has to come on a board and let everyone know.
Brenda, I agree with you. Linda, you were asked to comment if you had a good eco-balm suggestion not to bitch or praise chemical lip crap. Anyway, I used to swear by Burts Bees but you all know thats not happening anymore. I have actually found an amazing chapstick at my local farmers market! You can order from the lady who sells it from her online store as well. www.winesbeeyard.com BUT dont forget to go to your local farmers market to see what folks around you might be selling! Usually the prices are really great so you can try lots of products.
ou deserve to be celebrated for the special woman you are and all that you have to offer. Mori Lee bridesmaid dresses are made with the same care as our wedding gowns. Nice articles, but I am not clear about the point you mentioned about how to distinguish fake and real cheap louis vuitton.
