Think Globally, Act Locally?

So Biters, we are having a running debate here at the Bite.  We're trying to decide whether or not there would be a benefit to having more local content for you readers.

On the one hand, communities inspire - it's so easy to get your friends to adopt something in your backyard.  And seeing the fruits of one's labors inspires.  And of course, supporting local businesses that have their hearts in the right places... you can never go wrong there.

But we'd love to hear from you - is there enough local green content/services/products/inspiration to justify a tip JUST for you, in your area?  If yes, where are ya? If no, is the blog a good place to start to have those local options?

I can see why there's a debate about whether or not to add local content, but I personally would love it! I live in Houston -- not a particularly green city on the surface of things -- so it would be a huge help to learn more about some of the local green options. Of course, a place like San Fransisco might have more to write about, but we Houstonians might need the inspiration even more! And even if I didn't live in a particular city that you all wrote about in a tip, I think I'd still enjoy reading about (and getting ideas from) what is happening in other places. Plus, I'd have those spots in my head to visit when I travel.
Hey Biters you missed a terrific green guide here in Maine. It's loaded with local tips on sustainability and coupons for local green businesses and products. I've already saved far more than the cost of the book - and found a bunch of great green businesses I didn't know about. This is it's first year out and welcome addition to our community! If you're in Southern Maine get one at www.thesunriseguide.com. Keep up the great work Biters!
hey biters, as a St. Paul, MN native who now lives in San Diego, I am constantly looking for green options. I know they are out there and my husband and I continue to be on the look-out (he has a much better eye for it). We would love to be able to share information with others in our area and help encourage people to be more green.
I'm a San Diego native and I'd love a local section! I enjoy the daily tips but having tips pertaining to specific locales would be great.
I want to find these businesses too, for Edmonton Alberta. It is very hard to find these businesses without any help
Have to second the thoughts from Houston. Baltimore is not the greenest city, so every (local) bite helps! I could see an every-so-often local tip (once a week? once every two?) with continued do-it-everywhere content, too. And here's a guide that's workable everywhere: http://www.dinegreen.com/restaurant_guide.asp - there's even a green restaurant in lil' ol' Bawlmer, Hon!
I'd love some help finding local green resources in Milwaukee and southeastern Wisconsin. (I live in a small town called East Troy about 45 minutes SW of downtown Milwaukee.) I could see either a periodic local tip or maybe you could have a wiki-like area on your website where Biters could post information on their area. Or maybe both--periodic tips and something on the website. It would be great to have a place to look for tips from other people and post tips. Like "Hey, does anyone in my area know of or recommend a green remodeler?"
I'd love some info on my country please! Do you know of any companies or sites like this for the UK, or even better Scotland.
In Bend, OR, the local environmental center puts out a great guide to local green businesses and other resources: www.thegreenspot.org Central Oregon has a large popluation of good hearted folks who try to stay local!
I think it's a great idea, even for networking. I live in suburban Philly and I don't know many people with my interest in environmentalism...
