Try First, Film Later

Since there's no way I can top Hanah's story in today's "Personally Speaking" section, I'm not going to try. Instead, here's one more reason not to try new things while you're filming live TV.

What about Bill Dube', the creator of the Killacycle? The fastest electric motorcycle in the world. Unfortunately he had a bit of a nasty fall recently, but he's okay now. http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/33853/113/
One thing to remember : not all scooters are good. Two-stroke engines (in a lot of scooters) pollute like crazy. Poking around online to find some good info for biters about this, I found this quote and article: ""One of these two-stroke engines produces the same amount of pollution as 50 Honda Accords," said Bryan Willson, a professor of mechanical engineering at Colorado State University in Fort Collins and research director at the school's Engines and Energy Conversion Laboratory. I would like to apologize on behalf of my father. That's the fifth motorcyclist he's pushed over this month! He likes to pretend he's a bullfighter and, well... SORRY!
For those of you who may be considering electric scooters but who are concerned about the manufacturing lifecycle of the batteries, check out this site: www.Nilar.com. YERT visited these guys in Colorado (http://blog.yert.com/2007/09/16/) We are thrilled to report that the scooter really moves and the battery should last for the lifetime of the scooter. http://nilar.com/index.php?pageID=35&languageID=1 So, after the initial manufacture of said scooter and crazy efficient Nilar battery, you should be driving around without delivering toxins to everyone else. Isn't that a breath of fresh air? julie www.YERT.com
Indeed two-stroke gas powered scooters and other motorcycles pollute more than SUVs! Hack Hack Cough Cough! i hate riding my bike anywhere near scooters because they smell so bad! http://www.wweek.com/editorial/3240/7867 follow this link to an article published by the Willamette Week in Portland! Good thing you recommended hybrid scooters, my lungs thank you!
I could be mistaken, but I believe the Vespa LX is ~not~ a hybrid, contrary to the tip. In fact, it's offered in a 50cc version, and 50cc scooters often are of the 2-stroke variety, which, as noted in these comments, is typically quite polluting.
The Piaggio HyS is protyped in three versions: the Vespa LX and the Piaggio X8 and MP3. http://www.piaggiogroup.com/news/2007/piaggio_hys_hybrid_scooter__en.htm
It may seem that an electric scooter is pollution free as it passes by. But lets not forget that electricity has to come from somewhere. Now in the US the electricity most likely came from a coal powered electric plant or maybe nuclear. If you charged your scooter with solar, wind or your own back yard hydro power now we are talking pollution free. SO can someone tell me how an electric scooter charged by coal power compares to a gas scooter as far as CO2 emissions?
I hear what you are saying. i am crap at numbers but There are calculations done at Calcars.org website that sort of show electric is better even now, all things considered... And as the grid improves in its cleanliness, so will electric scooters...
I had a chance to ride a Vectrix scooter at the Seattle Clean Vehicles Now conference. That is one nice looking "bike". After a moment to get used to the weight being behind me (rather than more underneath me on a motorcycle) it was a blast to ride. Best of all it has regenerative breaking. I want one.
