The Whole Nine Yards
Things to Do in Chicago
It's a day of nines. Not as special as 9/9/09 of course, but that was a Wednesday and we do the Chicago blog on Tuesdays, so… I know, lame excuse, still, a bunch of nines is kinda a big deal in numerology. Let's see here…accomplishment, success, and satisfaction. Sweet. In celebration of today's awesomeness, here's a list of nine eco things to do around Chicago in the next few days:
1. Enter code BREAK0909 when you buy online and save 20% on Julia Failey's jewelry (pretty, whimsical designs made with recycled metal), plus free shipping for non-Chicagoans; now through Wed., Sep. 30. Prices vary.
2. Join the discussion about coal with the likes of Alderman Joe Moore during From the Holler to the Hood: The REAL Cost of Coal!; Tue., Sep. 29, 7-9 pm. Suggested donation, $5.
3. Screening of Food, Inc. at the Beverly Arts Center; Wed., Sep. 30, 7:30 pm. $7.
4. World Vegetarian Day is around the corner, and so's the Lakeside Cafe - celebrate with its special this week, Southern-style veggie chicken pot pie with collard greens; Thu., Oct. 1. Pot Pie, $13.
5. Mmm, beer. Score tastings and snack-y pairings at the Oktoberfest Beer Class at Whole Foods Lincoln Park; Thu., Oct. 1, 7-8:30 pm. Class, $20.
6. Green in the Loop Architectural Walking Tour 1909-2009 - the best combo of enjoying crisp fall weather and catching up on why our city rocks; Sat., Oct. 3, 10 am-noon. Cash ticket, $20.
7. Illinois Solar Tour – I went into it further last week, but here's a lil reminder to check out area homes and businesses powered with renewable energy sources; Sat., Oct. 3, 10 am-3 pm. Free.
8. My Private Chef's seasonal cooking demo at Green City Market during one of its last outdoor markets of the year; Sat., Oct. 3, 10:30 am. Free.
9. 12th Street Beach Cleanup with Chicago Green Families - BYO work gloves; Sun. Oct. 4, 1-3 pm. Free.
- City Editor Daisy…off to get caffeinated in preparation…
