Sustainable Art Exhibit

Why Care?:

Eco-Movies

Movies and Shakers

Can the big screen really be a force for change? The powers-that-be behind current and upcoming eco-themed movies hope so. Not just for green geeks, check out a new green film with your fam during the holidays, and you might just influence their outlooks.

Free (Science) Love

Last Tuesday I dragged my cold-ridden body to SF's Ask a Scientist, a monthly lecture/Q&A session on different science disciplines. November's presenter was Daniel Gluesenkamp from the Audubon Society, speaking on invasive species.

Eco Film Festival

I Screen, You Screen…

We all screen…eco-movies at the weekend-long Green Screen Environmental Film Festival & Salon.
Why Care?:
You can't fix a problem until you're aware of it, and these films help you take that first step.

Phantom Loads

Power Shift

Unwittingly handing over power through your home electronics? Take control of the energy that your TVs, Blu-ray players, speakers, and other appliances drain when they're plugged in, but turned off.

Botanic Garden

Petal to the Metal

Wanna get outside before fall speeds past you? Floor it to the Chicago Botanic Garden (even if it's on your bike).
Why Care?:
In addition to conserving important plant species, the new center uses low-VOC paints and reclaimed tires on office floors, and gets energy from rooftop photovoltaic (solar) panels - plus, hoofing it outside instead of on a treadmill saves energy.

Even in Space, You Can't Get Away From It

The Mother Nature Network recently released its list of the Top 15 most toxic places to live (everyone, not least of all Molly, was shocked to learn that LA did not make the list).

Dress Up, Up, and Away

I had this really great Tina Turner wig when I was a kid. I wore it practically every Halloween, whether I was going as a rock star, a cheetah, or a sad punky clown. Though I’m guessing it was pretty non-eco in terms of material, I did reuse the hell out of it.
