Locally Made Cider
Breathe a Cider of Relief
Submitted by bdisylvester on Fri, 11/20/2009 - 12:00am. Worried about what to serve pals who don't drink much wine or beer? Relax and stock up on Doc's Hard Cider. It's made locally in Warwick, NY, and comes in three flavors. There's traditional apple with a strong apple taste and a dry finish; pear with a lighter taste of Bartletts blended with apples; and refreshing raspberry added to apple cider and refermented to get that fizzy champagne effect. Why Care?:
Drinking cider made within a few miles = fewer heavy bottles shipped long distances, which cuts back on fuel and CO2 emissions.

Disguise and Dolls
I’m a total last-minute Halloween dresser upper. Last year I found a blue ‘60s dress, dainty white gloves, and a silk scarf that said “Cuba” at a local vintage shop 30 minutes before my friend’s party was to start and… instant flight attendant. Some years I’m not so lucky and end up staring at my closet wishing I had a wackier fashion sense.Eyebrow:

Getting a local sweet fix cuts back on shipping CO2 since on average, food travels between 1,500 to 2,500 miles from the farm to your pantry.
Put on Your Dancing Boots
Last Thursday in NYC, my writer Yachtz (lucky him) rocked out at the Wyclef concert to celebrate the Grammy winner’s partnership with Timberland (the boots not the singer). I was at my sister’s baby shower but Yachtz gave me the low down.Something To Wine About
