Saving Refrigerator Energy
Does your kid stand in front of the open fridge for eons?
Submitted by alara on Wed, 08/26/2009 - 11:00pm. Put a (cryogenic) freeze on energy waste - and rising utility bills: Teach 'em to plan ahead before opening the fridge. Each time the door opens, cold air spills out, forcing the compressor to work overtime to replace it. These strategies are easy to adopt, so you and the kids'll keep your cool.Eyebrow:
Back-to-School Week: Conserving Paper
Not so impressed with the paper piling up around your house?
Submitted by alara on Wed, 08/19/2009 - 11:00pm. Go for less substance, more style. Try conserving paper during the school year by using email, scrap, and recycled paper. These simple steps are a perfect fit for saving cash, time, and trees.Eyebrow:
Back-to-School Week: Biking and Walking
Wanna do a little more to help your kids stay healthy?
Submitted by alara on Mon, 08/17/2009 - 11:00pm. Go all out...side. If you can, walk or bike with your kiddos to school instead of driving them - even just once in awhile. It'll do wonders for their health (and yours), and 110% for the environment.Eyebrow:
Public Water Fountains
Stranded at the park without a drop to drink?
Submitted by alara on Wed, 08/05/2009 - 11:00pm. All's not lost. Before scavenging with the kiddos for bottled H2O, consider a draught from a nearby public drinking fountain. It's free, water's clean, and you get bottle-free aqua that's more than a mirage.Eyebrow:
Visiting Animal Sanctuaries
Wishing for a Utopian playground?
Submitted by alara on Wed, 04/22/2009 - 11:00pm. Beasts the sandbox: Visit an animal sanctuary with your kiddos and help care for critters rescued from abuse and neglect. The animals will enjoy the company, farm staff'll appreciate the support, and your brood'll have a total(itarian) blast.Eyebrow:
Eco School Fundraising
Wanna up the ante over school bake sales and gift-wrap drives?
Submitted by alara on Mon, 04/13/2009 - 11:00pm. We wager that if you ask your kid's school or community org to go with an eco-fundraising program, it will. Instead of kids selling disposable stuff (like anyone needs another mag subscription), they can raise money to help the planet by hawking eco-services and sustainable loot. Winners take all.Who started the teensy-portion trend?

Maybe baby. Baking or steaming fruits (like apples, bananas, or plums) or veggies (like carrots, peas, squash, or sweet potatoes) at home can save you adult-size cash.
