Fashion Smashion...Unless It's Eco

NY Fashion Week is finally coming to a close…and I can't say I mind. For one week, Bryant Park becomes a mad house with self-important fashionistas, pushy reporters (trust me, I used to be one for Us Weekly and Life & Style Weekly), stressed out PR reps, and not to mention those shouting PETA activists.

Julia Stiles Loves Mama Earth More Than You Do

That's right. Because she cared enough to star in a video about a fake eco-clothing line. And I cared enough to post it for you below.

Tug-of-War(drobe)

Holding on tight to clothes you like but never wear? Muscle up the strength to put 'em in a bag and spring-clean your closet. The Council for the Environment NYC just added two more drop-off points for recycling old bedding and duds (coats, shoes, hats, even our so-never-shoulda-happened velour Juicy tracksuit). Great, since NYers toss about 193,000 tons of textiles into landfills each year.

Are babies heavyweights on your budget?

Sure. But you'll save a lotta money for baby's college fund by swapping goods like maternity clothes, kids' toys, and strollers with other parents. You'll also save a used diaper-load of natural resources.

Now that the major spring '07 Fashion Weeks are over, how do we recommend that all the designers and models de-stress?

Through yoga - wearing only the haute-est in eco-yoga wear, but of course. (Because even if you're not a model, you still want the most styling eco-yoga pants on the market when your butt's in the air for 90 minutes straight).

What are you wearing as you step to the beat of the latest Shakira single?

Points for multitasking - working out as you eye the hottie always hogging the hi-tech treadmill. But if you're wearing traditional workout garb, we take those points right back. Instead, choose eco- and body-friendly clothes made from sustainable materials like bamboo.
