Healthy Schools Benefit

Band Camp(aign)

10.21.2009

The Bite:
This one time…would you swap a standard restaurant dinner for one that'll support kids' health? March to the Cooking Up Change benefit at Salvage One, where teams of five CPS students (all in high school cooking classes) compete to make a tasty and nutritious lunch using local produce like corn and antioxidant-rich blueberries. After you grub on apps and vino, sample the entry dishes (last year's winner was Carrot Quesadillas stuffed with peppers) and vote for your fave. Schools nationwide'll serve up the winning team's meal - instrumental in making cafeterias healthier.
Why Care?:
Feeding kids nutrient-rich, whole foods helps keep their noggins in top form - better memory, better focus...hello, smarter kids.
We'll be vying to win the six-person spa getaway, including a meal with locally sourced ingredients at IN's Reverie Spa Retreat.
Wanna Try:
Cooking Up Change for Healthy Schools Campaign; Oct. 29, 6-9 pm; Salvage One, 1840 W. Hubbard (312-419-1810). Meal tickets, $100; raffle tickets, $20.

Cocktail Fact

The Portland-based One More Time Around Again Marching Band, with 500+ adults aged 18-85, is considered the largest all-adult marching band in the world.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters eat a locally grown ear of corn instead of a nonlocal one just once, we'll save 13 kitchen sinks full of gas.
