Bite: the Big Ones

04.17.2009

The Bite:
Over the last 3 months, we've tipped everything from a beignet recipe (hello, Mardi Gras with extra gras) to reused building supplies to earrings made from 'em. Some zingers made you feel like gettin' busy (February was all love) while others made you wanna take a break...to Milwaukee, that is. Here, some toppers...
The Big One:
The One You Loved:
St. Pat's Day at O'Shaughnessy's
was our most popular tip. Aww...Biters after our own heart - supporting the local economy with a pint of local beer. Runner-up: rallying for the Field Museum's Water Day - we walked the talk too with our sig-o and helped raise $300 for UNICEF.

The One We Loved:
Art School Girl's juice carton birdhouse. With the latest Chicago buzz calling out Olympic 2016 building projects that threaten our birds, we were happy to help a couple of cardinals shack up outside our pad with this new Make It Bite. Runner-up: Connect's organic cotton hoodies. Thanks to those of you who went on a recession-busting spree, Connect just launched online shopping and an iPhone app.

The One We Thought Would Gross Us Out but Didn't:
getting schooled on worm composting. Despite the potential gag factor (and we admit, our own laziness), Urban Worm Girl proved to us that we can coexist with trash-eating red wrigglers, which tunnel right to the bottom of your compost bin (read: no squirmy stare downs over breakfast).

Cocktail Fact

If you don't mind the wait: Japanese brewery Asahi designed a robot to open and pour your beer.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters chug a pint of local beer each day instead of an import, we'll save 224 bathtubs full of diesel fuel each year.
