Irish Earth Day

Clover and Out

04.10.2009

The Bite:
What's your 20 for Earth Day? How 'bout making a pit stop at the Irish American Heritage Center (off the Blue Line's Montrose stop) for a free, Earth-lovin' funfest, with local Irish eats, drinks, and tunes in the center's pub (art and movie screenings too). And you're never too old to have a unicorn painted on your cheek - actually, we are - but for kids, there's face paintin' and seedling plantin' to be had while you browse the 60+ booths (read: score freebies like CFL bulbs and stuff from Seventh Generation), from Chapter One Organics to the Center for Green Technology. 10-4.
Why Care?:
Coming together for Earth Day helps raise awareness about the planet and supports local green companies - from green contractors to gardening nonprofs.
We'll be hitting the pub at noon-thirty for knee-knocking tunes from Paddy Homan & Friends.
Wanna Try:
Irish Earth Day Festival; Apr. 18, 10 am-4 pm; Irish American Heritage Center, 4626 N. Knox Ave. (773-282-7035).

Cocktail Fact

Every year at the moment the spring equinox occurs, the UN rings the Japanese Peace Bell to honor Earth Day.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters take the CTA to an Earth Day festivity instead of driving, we'll save 69 bathtubs worth of gas.
