Connect the Dots

03.11.2009

The Bite:
Wanna put two and two together to track down a smokin' outfit? Pick up a few style clues here: Connect Chicago, home to edgier-than-most eco-clothes and accessories, as well as furniture. This airy Wicker Park shop carries stuff from local designers, such as Wired Jewelry's industrial-chic bracelets made from scrapped BMW alternators, solar-charged Noon Solar bucket bags, and jackets from Nau. And this month, CC debuts its own line, including the cozy, PJ-replacing organic cotton hoodie (conventional cotton production uses 25% of the world's insecticide) with snazzy elephant-shaped cutouts made from reclaimed fabric - see photo. Scope out your picks at the King's Hill Organic Farm benefit, where you can shop while you sip VeeV cocktails. Mystery solved.
Wanna Try:
Connect Chicago, 1330 N. Milwaukee Ave. Map It (312-890-3684). Benefit for King's Hill Organic Farm, Mar. 21, 5:30-9 pm. RSVP ahead. Reclaimed Elephant Hoodie, $88; benefit suggested donation, $7.

Cocktail Fact

Michael Cain, John Cleese, and, as of November 2009's new Guy Ritchie flick, Robert Downey, Jr. have all played Sherlock Holmes.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters buy a sweatshirt made with organic cotton instead of conventional cotton, we'll keep the weight of 37 Chicago police detectives in pesticides outta the environment.
