Cops and Robbers

The Bite:
imageWanna make out? Like a bandit, we mean. Slink over to the Chicago Police Department's next public auction to pick through unclaimed and abandoned items. It's only half as weird as it sounds, and nabbing secondhand goods (right in front of the city's finest, no less) keeps reusable materials out of landfills and saves you cash. Besides TVs and media gear, you can grab everything from bicycles (there are an average of 75 at each auction) to clothing to snow blowers. Yep, snow blowers. How that qualifies as police evidence is beyond us, but we're not asking questions. Not us, officer.
Wanna Try:
Chicago Police Department public merchandise auction operated by Ace Auctioneers; February 2, 8:30 a.m. doors open, 10 a.m. start; Westside Technical Institute, 2800 S. Western Ave. Cash only.

Cocktail Fact

Chicago Police never solved the famous St. Valentine's Day Massacre of 1929, but they blamed Al Capone for the death of the seven mobsters.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters purchase used PCs and stereo equipment instead of new, we'll avert sending 134,000 lb of e-waste to landfills each year.
