Dreaming of Genie? - Halloween Prep Week

10.21.2008

The Bite:
imageOr, of dressing up like one, anyway... Just fold your arms, nod your head, and rent a getup (genie or otherwise) from Fantasy Costumes, which stocks millions of guises (yes, literally), from the Joker to classics like flappers and gangsters. It's also got loads of wigs to keep (we're going red for thirty bucks). Also: Chicago Costume Company's got locally crafted, handmade duds (same range as FC, with kid stuff too) and Broadway Costumes carries simpler costumes from local theaters - both places alter to size at no charge, and you get three days to bring it back. Plus, renting means keeping vinyl costumes and plastic props (swords, wands), many of which contain cancer-causing PVC, out of production. Wish granted.

Cocktail Fact

The famous bottle in I Dream of Jeannie was a 1964 Jim Beam holiday decanter.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters rent a costume instead of buying a new one, we'll keep the weight of 94 astronauts in plastic out of landfills.
