Fit to Be Tied

The Bite:
imageWant a Marcos-worthy shoe rack but with a shoestring budget? Slip on a pair of supercomfy, supersultry Mohop sandals. These handcrafted heels come with five lace-up ribbons you can style seven or so ways (givin’ Mama a new pair of shoes each day of the week). The kicker? Each curved platform is made from sustainably harvested wood, with recycled rubber soles. The clever design is the brainchild of architect-turned-shoemaker Annie Mohaupt, who recently gave us a tour of her Logan Square studio (where we got a sneak peek at this summer’s way-hot walnut wedges with ergonomic foot beds). You’ll have to restrain us.

Cocktail Fact

After Imelda Marcos and family fled the Philippines, officials tallied the contents of her closet, which included 1,060 pairs of shoes (and a paltry 888 handbags).

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters pick up a pair of wooden or recycled rubber shoes over regular sandals, we’d conserve 158,500 gallons of petroleum.
