Local Brewery Tour

Getting Drafted

11.04.2009

The Bite:
Wanna recruit a better beer? Dodge the ordinary draft and arm yourself with a pint o' Half Acre's latest brew, Magnus. Sample the dark, chocolaty malt and five other staple brews, including a bitter, brown Over Ale and a light Daisy Cutter pale ale (which we like to lap up at Naha) during HA's new Friday beer tastings. Every week, the rustic-feeling brewery - tricked out with reclaimed 100-year-old oak flooring and walls - hosts a free tour with, yep, free beer. Can't conscientiously object to that.
Why Care?:
Drinking beer brewed within a few miles = no shipping heavy bottles and kegs long distance = less fuel and fewer CO2 emissions.
We haven't succeeded yet, but we're angling to win a free beer in one of HA's weekly scavenger hunts, which usually involve tracking down some hidden object somewhere in the city - check its blog for details every Friday.
Wanna Try:
Half Acre Beer Company; tours, Fridays, 5-6 pm; 4257 N. Lincoln Ave. (773-248-4038). Bottles, $8/22 ounces.

Cocktail Fact

Beer is the second most popular beverage in the world - tea is first.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters swill a pint of local beer each day instead of an import, we'll save 599 kegs full of boat fuel each year.
