The Bite:

Wish you had a never-ending supply of rich, creamy, spiked beverages? Take a gander at this 'nog recipe from our friends at New Leaf's Natural Grocery, where you can grab free-range, organic eggs from Anabaptist Farmers Coop in Indiana, and cream and milk from Organic Valley Family Farms in Southern Wisconsin. Then get brandy and rum here. Golden.

New Leaf's Organic Free-Ranging Decadent Eggnog
Serves 6

6 brown eggs
1 cup superfine raw organic sugar (or raw organic sugar pulsed in a blender for 30 seconds)
1⁄2 tsp fresh grated nutmeg
1⁄2 tsp organic vanilla extract
2 1⁄2 cups organic heavy whipping cream
2 cups organic whole milk
1⁄2 cup brandy
1⁄2 cup dark rum

Chill ingredients. In a bowl, beat the eggs until very frothy. Continue to beat, adding sugar, then nutmeg and vanilla, then the cream a bit at a time. Add the milk a little at a time, then beat in the brandy and rum. Chill for 1-2 hours, and serve cold.

Cocktail Fact

Now that's what we call eggnog: George Washington's recipe called for the addition of 1 pint brandy, 1⁄2 pint rye whiskey, 1⁄2 pint Jamaican rum, and 1⁄4 pint sherry.

Small Changes Add Up

Free-range or pasture-raised organic eggs can cost a bit more, but considering the health and eco benefits, these eggs are truly golden.
