Think you can't sing the local food gospel in winter? Keep the faith: Small-scale indoor farmers markets are sprouting up in several Chicago churches through the end of March. Look for deliciousness like grass-fed beef from Arnolds Farm and vegetables and flour from Ackerman Farms (certified organic), plus stuff you can't get nearby, like organic olive oil and coffee from Chicago Fair Trade. There're usually nonedibles too - such as goat's milk soap and veggie-dyed yarns. Vendors will vary - about 7 to 14 at each - but most markets will have a café ('cuz who doesn't love eating food before, during, and after buying it?) and 10% of sales go to the Harvest of Hope Fund, which helps farmers in crisis. Amen.
