I-Go Maniac

The Bite:
imageDon't have a car and need one? We know it's all about you, but trying out I-Go car share helps out the planet too. This Chicago-based nonprof's got low-emission wheels (like Priuses, Civic Hybrids, Scion xBs) - 200 of 'em, in 120 locations around the city. Like Zipcar, insurance, gas, and parking come with, but membership's cheaper - and now you can use your CTA card to open your ride. Also, wrap your (big) head around this: By choosing I-Go over purchasing new, you help reduce the 7 billion pounds of auto waste piling up from new car makers each year.
Wanna Try:
I-Go, 2125 W. North Ave. Map It (773-278-4446). Annual membership, $50; Go Standard plan, $6/hour and up.

Cocktail Fact

In 1948, a Zurich-based housing co-op formed the first car-sharing program on record, the, ahem, Selbstfahrergenossenschaft.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters opt for a car share instead of buying a car, we'll avert the weight of 37,580 highway patrolpersons in nonrecyclable materials.
