SMALL CHANGES ADD UP

If 10,000 Chicago biters drink an organic martini instead of one made with conventional spirits, we’ll save the fuel it would take for a band to drive its tour bus around the world every week for a year.

COCKTAIL FACT

In 2004, the Algonquin Hotel in NYC debuted a $10,000 martini, made with a diamond “ice cube.”

Are you a hep-to-the-jive, cocktail-swilling eco-scenester? Um, simmer down, Cab Calloway. Head out for the real thing Thursday at Wrigleyville’s Uncommon Ground Green Room Sessions, a monthly music event riffing on the environment and spotlighting eco orgs. UG is known for its solid folk-rock lineups, and locally grown spirits and food, but we’ll be braving Northside parking for the TreeTini, a seasonal martini that for every one ordered, sponsoring orgs will plant a tree (1,600 so far). Tomorrow night, listen in to Latin jazz group James Sanders and Conjunto while you knock back house-infused organic Bartlett pear elixirs. One drink, one tree - why not make it a double?
