The Bite:
Looking for a deluxe movie experience in the sky? Ain't nothin' wrong with that…just get up to Churchill Park each month for free outdoor summer movie screenings (first up: My Big Fat Greek Wedding). Arrive around 7:30 pm for front-row seats (BYO blanket), free popcorn, and preshow games like boccie and beanbag tosses from local fun-seller Cat and Mouse. 'Round the corner, grab salads/sammies from Hot Chocolate and finally get a piece of the pie, or, HC's Coffee Cocoa Nib milkshake...
Why Care?:
Coming together to watch one large screen instead of a bunch of small ones saves energy - kinda like car pooling, plus, no cineplex means no overpumped A/C.
We've saved the date for Raiders of the Lost Ark on July 26 - a youngish Harry Ford? Yes, please.
Wanna Try:
Movies in the Park; My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Jun. 18, sundown; Churchill Park, 2007 W. Churchill St.

Cocktail Fact

In 2002, My Big Fat Greek Wedding surpassed The Blair Witch Project as the highest-grossing independent film of all time. The Passion of the Christ surpassed the record 2 years later.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters watch a movie on one big screen instead of their individual TVs for 2 hours, we'll save enough energy to project 7,000 feature-length films.

For those of us who are "hip" to where things are, there's no way of knowing the location of Churchill Park. Is it North Side? South Side? A cross street or something such as "near xx & xx" would be nice.
Churchill Park/Playlot is at the intersection of Churchill & Damen Ave. (just south of Armitage Ave.) in the heart of Bucktown. The closest CTA stop is the Blue Line Damen stop, but it's also a quick walk from the Clybourn Metra Station on the Union Pacific North Line. One other thing to note for those of you with kids (or who are kids at heart!), we will also be showing the family-friendly film "Kung Fu Panda" on Sunday, August 23rd!
