Perfect Pitch

05.22.2009

The Bite:
Is the volume of your trash hitting a new high (note)? Listen to this: Local nonprof Creative Pitch'll take anything artsy - gently used paper, paints, pencils, glues, even old office supplies (tell your boss) - then give them to local, underfunded art teachers. Just drop off your load at CP's Bucktown office (call ahead) and help keep usable stuff outta landfills while inspiring over 35,000 budding Picassos. Sounds perfect.
Why Care?:
American office workers waste 120-150 pounds of still usable white office paper a year - paper that could've become a collage, drawing, or self-portrait by some kiddo.
We're looking forward to some auction prizes like clothes from Pivot and Connect at CP's first fundraiser at Lumen on May 28 - plus listening to tunes from indie-electro pop band Hey Champ DJ's.
Wanna Try:
Creative Pitch, 2211 N. Elston Ave. (773-395-2500). Something to Pitch About fundraiser; May 28, 6-9 pm; Lumen, 839 W. Fulton Market. Tickets, $20.

Cocktail Fact

Swedish artist David Åberg used 100 tons of paint to create the 86,000-square-foot Mother Earth, the world's largest single-artist painting.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters donate their gently used office paper for reuse instead of trashing it, in a year we'll keep 380,800 trees standing.
