Province Charming

The Bite:
imageDoes deciding what's for dinner make you feel like a damsel (or dude) in distress? Hop a white horse and head to Province restaurant, the new eatery by Chef Randy Zweiban (of Nacional 27 fame) with small (Melted Spanish Blue Cheese Fondue), big (local Gunthorp Farms Rabbit Confit), and bigger (Braised Heritage Farms Lamb) plates. We xo the juicy Rotisserie Organic Chicken - great with Beckman's berry-licious and biodynamic Cuvee Le Bec red - but the garden view from floor-to-ceiling windows (meaning loads of natural light + less energy use) had us at "here's your table." The Gold LEED-certified space has sustainably harvested cork floors and table tops, water filtration, and Energy Star kitchen appliances, saving resources...ever after.
Wanna Try:
Province, 161 N. Jefferson St. at Randolph St. (312-669-9900). Rotisserie Organic Chicken, $17.

Cocktail Fact

In the earliest French story of Cinderella, she's wearing pantoufles en vair, "slippers of white squirrel fur." A translating error confused vair, "fur," with verre, "glass" and it stuck in subsequent English versions.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters eat half their food from local sources, in a year we'll keep the amount of CO2 produced by almost 1.5 million cars out of our atmosphere.
