Salvage Love

The Bite:
Need advice on spicing things up in your bedroom...decor? Invite over a blonde-wood dresser (if that's your type) from West Town's Salvage One. This massive loft space's filled with reclaimed (mostly from the Midwest) home things - like midcentury modern office and living furniture on the ground floor; leftover event chairs and tables on two (it hosts weddings on the side); and funky doors, building materials, and bath fixtures on three. And don't miss new artwork by Mike Nourse, who uses secondhand window frames and antique pics (see photo). Prices run the gamut - from a $30 antique wooden school desk to a $1,100 carved Victorian hutch (delivery available), but it's all one of a kind, and keeps old stuff outta landfills and new stuff outta production. Hot.

Wanna Try:
Salvage One, 1840 W. Hubbard St. Map It (312-733-0098). Mike Nourse's Par Poupee, $600.

Cocktail Fact

Sex advice columnist Dan Savage writes his column on Ann Landers's old desk, which he bought at auction in 2002.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters buy a used wood hutch instead of a new one, we'll keep 55 trees standing.
