Sugar Pie, Honey Brunch

02.04.2009

The Bite:
imageCan't help yourself...when it comes to good food? Give in to temptation, or at least this one: Green Zebra, West Town's posh-but-snoot-free veggie haven. GZ's spankin'-new brunch lineup's got Cheese Popovers with roasted squash, Caramelized Banana Crepes with ricotta and WI honey, plus a whole buncha other good stuff that incorporates local ingredients (veggies from Michigan's Werp Farm, eggs from Wisconsin's New Century Farm...). We stuffed ourselves on smoky, gooey Spence Farm Grits with aged cheddar and shiitake mushrooms. And because you'll save water by skipping the bacon (hello, like 846 gallons of it), lap up an extra cup of Intelligentsia's organic dark roast - blended specially for GZ. Oooooh.
Wanna Try:
Green Zebra, 1460 W. Chicago Ave. Map It (312-243-7100). Vegetable Hash, $10; Quiche, $11; Spence Farm Grits, $10.

Cocktail Fact

Green Zebra heirloom tomatoes are green with white stripes.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters opt for a vegetarian meal over a meaty one just once, we'll save enough water to fill 38 Olympic-size pools.
