Sugar Rush - City Break

04.03.2009

The Bite:
Hyped up to hit the road now that winter's through? Here's the buzz: Little Sugar River Farm's modern, three-bedroom guesthouse (sleeps six), just a car pool away through New Glarus, WI's rolling hills (aka Little Switzerland). After a tour, and a little local beer and cheese, plan for: porch-side sunsets, a soaking tub for two, and in-house massages. Pick ingredients right there and cook at the house (right now there's spinach, asparagus, honey, and free-range eggs), and/or hit the New Glarus Brewing Company in town for tastings and takeout brews (equals dinner, right?) like the citrusy-sweet Organic Revolution. Next day, pedal one of LSRF's six trek bikes along a few miles of the flat, scenic Sugar River State trail. Sweet.

Cocktail Fact

Due to several years of failed crops in Switzerland, in 1844, Swiss explorers purchased land along the Little Sugar River because the valley reminded them of their homeland.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters eat only locally grown food for a year, we'll save enough gas for each of us to drive cross-country and back 750 times.
